The main ingredient of Aquazon is the
Blue-Green Algae Aphanizomenon flos-aquae (AFA),
which grows naturally in an extraordinary
lake in Southern Oregon. AFA was shown to
stimulate immune patrolling in the body,
more specifically the migration of natural
killer cells. Traditional immunology
describes natural killer cells as scavengers
of virally infected cells and cells
undergoing degeneration. In addition, AFA
contains a polysaccharide that stimulates
the activity of macrophages, the first line
of defense of the immune system. Similar
polysaccharides have been isolated from
other types of algae, including spirulina,
but in much smaller quantity and with a much
lesser potency.
